Election season is here

In addition to being the unofficial end of the summer, Labor Day weekend is also the time political campaigns get in full swing. In Gloucester, a meet-and-greet for Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) was held at historic Kenwood. Here, Kaine, at left, was introduced by host Kate Cole, center. The event also served as a chance for Democratic Party supporters to hear from 1st Congressional District candidate Vangie Williams, at right. A large crowd braved a sudden downpour to hear from the candidates, and both Kaine and Williams remarked about the enthusiasm of the party faithful in attendance. Kaine, who flew in from Sen. John McCain’s funeral to attend the Gloucester rally, also reflected on his friendship with the Arizona senator. Williams and Kaine’s wife, former Virginia Secretary of Education Anne Holton, will speak at Saturday’s Gloucester County Democratic Committee Seafood Dinner at the Abingdon Ruritan Club, Bena.
