Gloucester High School varsity baseball players stand at 2-1 after a win and a loss in recent Peninsula District action. The Dukes won, 4-2, at Bethel on Tuesday in a pitchers’ duel that only allowed five Gloucester hits and four from the Bruins.

The Dukes had the advantage by making the most of their hits, stealing four bases and executing two hit and runs. They also displayed the clutch hitting that was missing in Friday’s loss to Hampton, said GHS coach Derek Kibler.

In the field, Gloucester committed two errors but Calvin Strong had a highlight play at third base and freshman Tyler Wood had two assists in his first start behind the plate. The Wood assists included a key strikeout caught stealing in the fifth.
