Donna “Missy” Michelle Propst Newman, aka “Mimi,” 53, of Hayes, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. A lifelong Virginia resident, she received her bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University and had worked for over 30 years for Peninsula Hospital Services. She was a loving woman who would do anything for anyone. She enjoyed sewing, playing the lottery, bingo, coffee, and baking cakes, but her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her father, James “Junie” Propst Jr., and her stepfather, James Douglas Miller; survivors include her husband, William Van Newman; her children, Joshua Michael Perry, Taylor Mae Moore (Dylan), Tiffany Marie Newman (Stephen), and Tyler Michael Perry; her mother, Doris J. Miller; her grandchildren, Madelynn Mae Thomas, Blakelynn Montgomery Moore, Amelia Jean Grage and Tristen Alexander Grage; her sister, Valerie Ann Cash; her brother, James Stuart Propst III, and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Due to COVID restrictions, attendance is limited but the service may be viewed live on the funeral home Facebook page.
