Discussion Sunday on civil rights issues

A discussion about a topic that is currently at the forefront of public conversation—the removal of children of undocumented aliens by federal authorities—as well as other civil rights issues, will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Mathews Boys and Girls Club, 498 Church Street, Mathews.

CircleUp Middle Peninsula, a community action political group, is holding the panel discussion. Participants include Cassandra L. Newby-Alexander, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Professor of History and Director of the Joseph Jenkins Roberts Center for African Diaspora Studies, Norfolk State University; immigration activist Lucy Maurer and Preston Elrod, Professor Emeritus, Justice Studies, Eastern Kentucky University. Sheila Crowley, retired CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition, will lead the discussion.
