Croaker catches top the local fishing news this week.
There have been many reports of fish being caught in the York River over the past week, according to Chuck Ashe with York River Feed and Fishing Supplies, Inc., at the Point "They are mostly medium to small-sized, but there are a lot of fish," Ashe said.
Other fishing, he said, has remained fairly slow. He has had some reports of a few flounder bites, and some bluefish and Spanish mackerel being caught near the mouth of the York River. Ashe said he still hasn’t heard much on the cobia action.
He reported that Tabb Bridges of Gloucester Point, caught a citation 7-pound, 2-ounce flounder at Buoy 42.
Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters, Cobbs Creek, reported larger croaker to two pounds and some medium-sized spot are available around Gwynn’s Island and in the creeks.
