County budget time – Gloucester approves $125M budget with no tax increase

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors adopted the county’s fiscal year 2020 budget Monday night, imposing no tax increase on residents. The county’s real estate tax rate will remain at 69 cents per $100 of assessed value. Gloucester’s personal property tax rate will stay at $2.95 per $100 of assessed value and there will be no boat tax imposed on users. The budget, which was adopted 6-0 in the colonial courthouse, fully funds both Gloucester and Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squads and provides a level cost of living increase for all county and school employees. The $125,158,120 overall budget lived up to its goals, which were to continue to improve compensation for both county and school system employees, while not reducing services or eliminating programs.
