Cottage struck by lightning being rebuilt

Bill Lawrence and his wife Carol of Zanoni have been doing renovations on a cottage located on L’s Island Lane that was struck by lightning last September.

The cottage was built in 2012 and the property was being rented out at the time of the fire.

“Sunday afternoon, there was a really bad storm and lightning had struck. I went outside to look to see if it hit anything. I looked at the cottage and it looked fine. I went into the house. Our neighbor (Michael Dulong) ran to the house, pounding on the door and told me that the cottage was on fire,” said Bill. “His wife, Michaelle Dulong had already called the fire department. She saw the fire first while walking their dog.”

“We don’t have any fire hydrants down here so they had to bring trucks with huge tanks of water,” said Carol.

Carol also said that their neighbor Rick Bowen was also helping bring firemen from the hardtop with a golf cart, which was about half a mile from the cottage. She said he did it until the cart ran ...
