Construction begins this week at entrance to RCC Glenns

Motorists can expect to see construction activity begin on Route 33 in at the Rappahannock Community College Glenns campus entrance starting this week.

According to Virginia Department of Transportation spokesperson Kelly Hannon, construction will extend the existing right and left turn lanes and taper area into the campus parking lot. Lengthening the turn lanes will add more storage space for vehicles turning right and left, and reduces congestion in the Route 33 through traffic lanes.

The turn lanes will also support increased traffic using 30 dedicated parking spaces set aside to serve as a Park & Ride commuter lot. A public transit stop is also located at the campus.

The $625,000 project will be completed by Dec. 14. The project contractor is Howard Brothers Contractor, Inc.

Hannon said motorists can expect lane shifts and periodic lane closures at the campus entrance. Work will be underway on Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. until completion.
