Coleman Bridge performs overnight test openings

Virginia Department of Transportation bridge crews are scheduled to perform a series of overnight test openings on the George P. Coleman Bridge this week, each lasting approximately 20 minutes or less.

The openings are scheduled to occur nightly Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct. 6, between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. After each opening, crews will reopen the travel lanes on the bridge to allow any traffic queues to clear between openings. The openings are necessary for bridge inspections required annually.

VDOT attempts to schedule maintenance and non-emergency repair work during travel periods when traffic volumes are lower to reduce impact on motorists.
