Clinic raises $64,000+ at Derby de Mayo

The Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic hosted its spring gala, Derby de Mayo, on Friday, May 5, at the Abingdon Ruritan Club, Bena.

Blending the flavors of Cinco de Mayo with the pageantry of the Kentucky Derby, this event was the first large in-person occasion for the clinic since 2019.

Guests arrived in Kentucky Derby or Cinco de Mayo attire and participated in a hat contest, virtual horse races, and a $10,000 golf putt challenge. A DJ and dancing rounded out the evening, with food catered by local favorite Chef Brian Marshall.

“We’re celebrating 25 years of service to the community this year,” said GMCC executive director Arlene Armentor. “We’re thrilled to have the support of so many community leaders and individuals, and they deserve a night of fun for all they do to keep our patients’ needs met.”

The clinic raised more than $64,000 for patient care at the Derby de Mayo. For more information on GMCC or to volunteer, call 804-210-1368 or visit gmcareclinic.com/support.
