CircleUp to address freedom of speech, press

CircleUp Middle Peninsula, a community action group, invites the public to join a public conversation on freedom of speech and the role of a free press in society from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Mathews Boys and Girls Club, 498 Church Street. 

Dr. Rachel Bitecofer, Assistant Director of the Wason Center on Public Policy at Christopher Newport University, will lead the discussion about challenges to the freedom of speech and freedom of the press “when facts are overlooked and the ‘Media is the Message,’” a release stated.

Among those expected to take part are Harvey Morgan, former 98th District representative to the Virginia House of Delegates; Vangie Williams, recent 1st Congressional District candidate; Tom Robinson, president of Global Responses; John Koontz, Middlesex County Board of Supervisors; and Pete Teagle, reporter for the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal.
