Chesapeake Bank/Chesapeake Wealth Management will serve as the name sponsor for the 12th annual Gloucester County Public Schools Educational Foundation 8K and 3K run/walk to be held on Saturday, March 25 at Gloucester High School.
A virtual 5K option is available and can be completed between March 4 and March 25. Funds raised from the event will support the GCPS Educational Foundation’s Teacher of the Year and mini grant programs.
“Educational Foundation board members are excited to once again plan this community-wide event that provides the funds enabling us to recognize and support our teachers,” said board chairman Mike Jenkins. “We’re hoping for a big turnout this year and greatly appreciate the support that Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Wealth Management have provided over these many years as this event has grown.”
Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Wealth Management have been involved in sponsoring the event at various levels since the first race was held in 2012. Thanks to their commitment, as well as that of many local businesses, individuals and race participants, the Educational Foundation has been able to recognize and support teachers in Gloucester County Public Schools.
“We’re committed to helping our students and teachers achieve their academic (educational) goals, and this has been a great partnership from the very first race,” said Chesapeake Bank VP and Director of Business Services Melissa Crawford. “It’s partnerships like these that will make our students’ foundation stronger. We encourage other local businesses to consider a sponsorship as well.”
“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Educational Foundation for this event. As a mother of two boys, supporting children and the education system are near and dear to my heart,” said Felicia Stovall, Head of Administration, Wealth Advisor and Trust Officer, SVP, Chesapeake Wealth Management. “I am grateful our organization shares this value.”
Proceeds from the 2022 event funded the Teacher of the Year awards, presented last May, and $11,580.49 in mini-grants, which were awarded in December. The mini-grants, which are up to $500 each, cover a wide range of classroom needs addressing advanced technology, arts, reading, special education, etc. and can be used over multiple years to enhance the educational experience of Gloucester County students.
The upcoming March 25 event will raise funds for the 2023 Teacher of the Year Recognition in May and classroom mini-grants that will be awarded in December.
