Celebrating the familiar

The 2019 Gloucester Arts Festival, a month-long celebration of the arts, kicked off this past weekend, beginning Saturday night with the 13th annual Symphony Under the Stars free family concert at the northern end of Main Street near Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. On Sunday afternoon, the celebration moved down Main Street with the unveiling of 10 Seward Johnson life-sized bronze sculptures scattered throughout the Court House. Jenny Crittenden, executive director of the Main Street Preservation Trust (at far left), provided information about each of the sculptures, including this one of a man reading a copy of the Gazette-Journal titled “Inner World, Outer World” sitting on a bench near Tomlinson Exterminating Service. Louisa and Tristan Schermer are shown unveiling the artwork. The sculptures will remain on display through August.
