The beautiful weather Saturday made for an excellent setting for the Celebrate Healthy Living event at Woodville Park, Ordinary. Unfortunately, only a small crowd showed up.
Those who did attend benefitted from some exercise (a run/walk, ball toss, hula hoops), enjoyed healthy snacks, and were able to pick up some information about ways to have healthier lives.
Although aimed at all ages, the goal of the program was to raise awareness about childhood obesity, and the steps needed to combat this rising epidemic, according to Cheryl Matteo-Kerney, director of the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board Prevention Services Division, which sponsored the program.
Healthy living involves several components, Matteo-Kerney said including proper nutrition and ample exercise. Saturday’s event included CSB and other nonprofit agencies setting up displays, as well as several vendors making available products as varied as pet supplies, beauty products and rain barrels.
