CARES Act funds appropriated

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday night to appropriate $100,000 of CARES Act funding to cover operating costs that dealt with the county’s response to COVID-19 and its reopening. Gloucester has received $3,258,469 in CARES Act funding which can only be used for federally-approved expenses and must be used by Dec. 30.

Also discussed during the meeting was the proposed regional partnership of Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties to apply for the Virginia Telecommunications Initiative grant. The VATI grant has criteria that stresses regional cooperation, which is why the three counties’ joint efforts will increase their chances of being awarded the grant, said County Administrator Brent Fedors.
