BZA approves roller skating rink request

The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals approved an application for a roller skating rink at White Marsh Shopping Center during a meeting held April 24.

The meeting was held at the main library in Main Street Center because the Gloucester Board of Supervisors was in the colonial courthouse—where the BZA usually meets—that night to adopt the FY2012-13 budget.

Applicant Laurie B. Mason, on behalf of property owner White Marsh Properties LLC, sought a special exception for establishment of a recreation and amusement enterprise for a roller rink/family entertainment center at White Marsh Shopping Center.

The applicant also requested an imbedded variance of 380 feet to special criteria criterion "C," which requires that all "activities shall be conducted at least 500 feet from any residential district." The shopping center backs onto Piney Swamp Road and houses located off that road.
