Burned patient

A patient was transported Saturday by the Virginia State Police Med Flight helicopter to a local hospital after being burned in a structure fire that occurred shortly after noon on Saturday in a home on Line Fence Road, Severn. According to Robert Parlett, spokesperson for the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad which responded to the scene, firefighters found a single-story wood-framed home with no smoke showing. However, a patient with burn wounds was standing in the front yard along with others who were inside the home. The fire had been extinguished by the occupants prior to firefighters’ arrival. However, Parlett said fire crews overhauled the room where the fire was and ensured it hadn’t spread to other areas of the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
