Burglary suspect arrested after returning to scene

A Gloucester burglary suspect eluded police Monday afternoon but was taken into custody that evening after he returned to the home he had allegedly broken into earlier.

The Gloucester Sheriff's Office said the incident began at about 1 p.m. Monday when a witness reported observing a suspicious male on the back deck of a home in the 7800 block of Guinea Road while the homeowner was not there.

Responding deputies located forced entry to the rear door of the home and found the suspect inside but he fled into the woods. A perimeter was set up and Guinea Road was closed to traffic between Low Ground Road and York River Crossing for about three hours while police searched for the suspect.

The search included the GSO tracking dog, Duke, the GSO Special Operations Unit and the York Sheriff's Office's Drone Team. State police steered traffic away from the area.
