Board mulls extending sewer line

Mathews supervisors came up with a possible solution for the Hole in the Wall restaurant on Gwynn’s Island during its July 23 meeting—run the HRSD sewer line to the island.

Supervisor Mike Rowe told board members that the county should let the Hampton Roads Sanitation District know that the county has an emergency situation with the restaurant and would like to have information by the August meeting on the cost of running the line there. The board directed County Administrator Mindy Conner to contact HRSD about the matter.

The consensus decision came after a discussion during which board members Charles Ingram and G.C. Morrow expressed displeasure over the cost of pumping out the sewer system at the county-owned site and chastised Conner for not keeping the board fully informed about the nature of the problem.
