The Mathews County Board of Supervisors got a look on Tuesday at conceptual drawings for a new HRSD pump station to be built on Main Street adjacent to Moughons hardware store.
The structure will replace the current 40-year-old plant that’s located adjacent to the Hands Across Mathews building on Buckley Hall Road, across the creek from the new site.
Steven de Mik, director of operations for the Hampton Roads Sanitation District, told the board that the district had been concerned about the tanks in the existing structure and had spent a year looking at different properties to house a new facility, but that several property owners weren’t willing to sell. The current site is too small to both keep the existing structure operating and build a new one, he said. The site the district settled on meets all the criteria for the new structure, he said.
