BETTIE MILLER LINDSEY

Bettie Miller Lindsey died at home with her family in Chesapeake, Va., on April 15, 2013, at the age of 81.

Born and raised in Gloucester, Va., she attended Botetourt High School. After graduation she moved to Richmond, where she made an adventure of working for the Bank of Virginia. There she met and married the love of her life and they raised a family in Henrico County. Bettie became a housewife for a few years; then returned to a career in banking.

In 1985, she retired and moved to Mathews County, where she and her husband of 54 years built their dream home along the banks of the Piankitank River. While living in Henrico, Bettie and Bobby were charter members of the Fraternal Order of Police and she was the Charter President of the Lodge #4 Ladies’ Auxiliary. She also served as Bethel Guardian for Jobs Daughters Bethel #27.

After retirement, she made a brief foray into the antique business but her heart’s desire was to be at home. Bettie was devoted to her family and enjoyed many years surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her adoring husband.

She was predeceased by her parents, Walter Miller Sr. and Helen Miller; her brothers, Walter “Junie” Miller Jr. and James Miller Sr., and her loving husband, James R. “Bobby” Lindsey.

Among the many who will be left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Teresa Lindsey Jenkins, of Mathews; her son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Tricia Lindsey of Chesapeake; her grandsons and their wives, Michael and Tracy Jenkins of Rocky Mount, Va., and John and Susan Jenkins of Powhatan, Va.; as well as five beautiful great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Aidan, Madison, Morgan, and McKenna.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, Va. 23231, where a funeral service will be conducted Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
