Bethel workshop seeks to bridge relationships with law enforcement

Security professional Tom Hall of New Kent is dedicated to improving relationships between community members and law enforcement officers, and he brought his expertise to Gloucester on Saturday to help do just that.

Around 45 people participated in a Motor Vehicle Traffic Stop workshop organized by Hall and the Rev. James Harris, pastor at Bethel Baptist Church in Gloucester, where the workshop was held and where Hall was baptized after moving to Gloucester from New York as a young man. The workshop was made possible through the generosity of the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office, which provided simulation equipment and an officer to oversee it, said Hall.

The workshop included traffic stop scenarios in which people drove their cars up to an area in the parking lot, were “stopped” by a Gloucester deputy, and proceeded to undergo the routine questions that are asked by deputies during a traffic stop.
