Bethel Baptist to celebrate 151st anniversary

Bethel Baptist Church, Sassafras, will celebrate its 151st anniversary on Sunday, July 15.

The message for the morning service, which begins at 11 o’clock, will be delivered by the Rev. James L. Harris, interim pastor. Lunch will follow.

Beginning at 3 p.m., the afternoon service will see the welcoming of special guests from King and Queen County, the Rev. Arthur Roane and the congregation of Escobrook Baptist Church.

Worship leader for the morning will be Deborah Billups, and the Rev. Vivian Holmes will serve in the afternoon.

During morning worship, a memorial will be held for the church founders and other deceased members. In the afternoon, descendants of the founders will be recognized and Bethel’s five daughter churches will be acknowledged during church historian Dr. Dorothy Cooke’s historical reflections, a press release said. ...
