Residents are being encouraged to take advantage of what local businesses have to offer this weekend. Chesapeake Bank, the Gloucester Chamber of Commerce and Mathews businesses have partnered once again to hold a second Shop Local Day on Saturday.

The first Shop Local Day was held in the area last November and was such a success that the bank and chamber decided to co-sponsor another opportunity for local merchants to show residents the benefits of shopping close to home.

Chesapeake Bank’s business development coordinator Melissa Alexander said the bank, which prides itself on its focus on the community, planned the initial Shop Local Day in hopes of encouraging residents to keep their dollars in the community rather than taking them elsewhere.

There has even been a decal designed for Shop Local Day that reads, "Your buck stays here."
