Angels among us

Riverside Convalescent Center in Mathews put an Angel Tree outside, near the front door so that community members who want to give gifts to residents of the center could select a tag with a gift suggestion without having to go inside. Administrator Melissa Evans, shown at left, said once the tree was up, a post on Facebook let Mathews residents know about it, and by the end of the first day, all of the tags for over 50 residents were gone and the tree was filled again. The center is now on its third round of gift tags, said Activity Director Richard Miles, adding, “The angels of Mathews came and picked up the tags.” Here, Connie Shelton of Moon stops by to pick a tag off the tree.
