Alvin Lionel Jenkins, age 83, of Hayes, died at his home unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Lionel was born on May 23, 1939, to the late Malvin and Edna Brown Jenkins. Lionel was a lifelong waterman and member of Union Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for 10 years and a Deacon for more than 30 years. He enjoyed being outside, was a jack of all trades, and loved caring for animals. Lionel especially loved spending time with his family and loved to have a bowl of ice cream. Lionel was preceded in death by two children, Gail Reyes and Tony Jenkins, and is survived by his wife, Helen Jenkins; children, Michael Jenkins and Don Jenkins; stepchildren, Frank West III, Caroline Frizzell, Helena Jenkins; grandchildren, Shannon, Travis, Todd, Jonathan, Olivia, Shawn, Tristan, Logan, and Harmony; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenny Wayne Jenkins, Sheryl Brown, and Dianna Mitchum, and two beloved dogs, “Dixie Girl” and “Bubba.” The family received friends on Sunday, August 7, 2022, from 1-2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, with a funeral service conducted by Pastor Richard Whiteheart and Pastor Jared Berry at 2 o’clock. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
