Altemus announces candidacy for county board

Hayes resident Teresa Altemus, 53, filed paperwork Friday afternoon to seek the Republican nomination for the Gloucester Point district seat on the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors. The seat is currently held by Chris Hutson, who also recently announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for reelection to a second term.

Altemus previously served on the board from 1994 until she was defeated for reelection to her York district seat by Carter Borden in 2009. She said recent redistricting in the county now has her residing in the Gloucester Point district.

“If I have the privilege to serve as the Gloucester Point district representative, I will be looking to the future—looking through the windshield,” Altemus said. “I’m just excited about this new opportunity for me.”

She said she has received a strong backing of encouragement to run for the office over recent weeks and finally decided, “I’m going to do this.”
