Gloucester’s Brett Adkins went from last to first to win the Collision One Limited Stock 20-lap nightcap on Saturday night at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway.
Thomas Rose of Gloucester, and Brandon Sandridge of New Kent, led the field to green with Rose leading his first lap of 2011. On the next lap, Ender would go to the outside Thomas out of turn 2 to take over the top spot.
On the next lap, Adkins would spin out and be relegated to the rear, where he didn’t stay for long. The battles all over the track were tight as Ender worked to keep the top spot. On lap 13, Adkins was back in second and knocking on the door for the lead.
On lap 14 Adkins blasted around the outside of Ender out of turn 2 and down the backstretch to take over the lead. Over the remaining laps Adkins would pull away and cruise to his first win of 2011. Rose finished in fourth place.
In other action at the Middlesex County track, Walker Arthur of Forest, held off a determined David Williams of Avenue, Md., to take the checkered flag in the 35-lap Victory Late Model Feature. Brian Maxey of King George, won the 25-lap Budweiser Modified feature.
Results for Truckin’ Thunder Sportsman race are still unofficial; following the 25-lap contest, the motors of winner Todd Traylor and Tony Wood were being held for further inspection by track officials.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will take this weekend off, returning to action on Saturday, July 9, to host the Steel Block Bandits in the $3,000-to-win Firecracker 30.
