A milestone event

The Abingdon Ruritan Club’s seafood festival on May 16 was a milestone event—it was the club’s 70th fundraising seafood festival. In addition to the usual seafood and beverages, the sell-out crowd was also treated to some additional things to help celebrate this special event. At the opening ceremony, seven club members—Jonathan Beck, Graham Blake, David Dea, Walter Priest, Gordon Smith, Rupert Thomas and L.T. Wells—were introduced and recognized for having worked all 70 festivals. Catherine Smith was also recognized for having shucked clams for the clam booth for all 70 festivals, getting a special T-shirt to mark the occasion.
