A helping hand to HAM

Edith Turner, center, co-chair of the Mathews County Democratic Committee, presents a $1,000 check to volunteers with Hands Across Mathews, from left, Andy Jackson, Raymond Willis and Joe Noonan, who is the current president of the nonprofit organization. The funds will be used to help local families who have suffered some crisis that puts them in need of the basic amenities of food, clothing, shelter, prescription medications, or fuel. HAM combines the efforts of 35 churches to provide non-denominational charitable aid to families in the community. MCDC made holiday donations to several local programs, as well, including the Community Services Board and Newspapers in Education, which provides copies of the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal to students.
