The water temperature in Gloucester’s Beaverdam Reservoir has been hovering in the mid 40s, according to parks supervisor Randy Drake, but that has not stopped the fish from biting. 
Largemouth bass, catfish, yellow perch, white perch, black crappie and chain pickerel have been caught from boats, off the fishing pier and from the shore. 
On a couple of warm days last week, nearly all of the fishermen at the park were reeling in fish. Two men in a boat were skunked until they switched to using drop shots, then they landed 10 bass and six pickerel. Another lucky angler landed a six and a half pound bass. 
Annual boat passes for jon boats, canoes and kayaks for rent are now available at the ranger station. Beaverdam Park will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through January. For more information, call the park at 804-693-2107.
