DAVID WELLES PIERPONT

David Welles Pierpont, 77, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly August 22, 2026. David was born March 21, 1949, in Waterbury, Conn., to Clarence (Zeke) and Barbara Bishop Pierpont. He was the oldest of five children. He had an active childhood full of outdoor adventures and close relationships with nearby cousins. He served in the USAF after high school including a year in Vietnam. After Vietnam he was stationed at Langley AFB in Hampton, Va. He met the love of his life Beverly at Riverdale Baptist Church and they married on June 19, 1971. He was a wonderful son-in-law to Olie and Thelma House Baldree. He spent time working at the Newport News Shipyard and then entered the NASA apprenticeship school in 1973. He retired after a 40-year career where he had earned many awards and recognitions for his contributions to NASA’s programs.

David was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was known for his kindness, selflessness, and willingness to serve anyone in need. His dry witty sense of humor brought smiles and laughter to those who knew and loved him. He was an active member of Petsworth Baptist since moving to Gloucester in 2007. For a number of years, David was a member of a team from Petsworth Baptist that built handicapped ramps for people that needed them. He was a Godly man and practiced that in all parts of life including his 56-year marriage to Beverly Baldree Pierpont. He was completely devoted to Beverly and they shared a wonderful life together. His retirement brought with it a move to Gloucester where they had a house built on a beautiful, wooded lot. In retirement, he found enjoyment in building wooden lighthouses for family and friends. As a father to two daughters, Andrea McNiel and Amber Pierpont, he was committed to being there whenever they needed him. He enjoyed being active with both girls from the time they were young. He coached his youngest daughter’s basketball team. He never missed a single game even after he wasn’t coaching. He has three grandchildren, Hannah Wilson, Blake Wilson and Marissa Wilson. They brought him a lot of joy and he enjoyed spending time with them.

He leaves behind his loving family including his wife, Beverly Baldree Pierpont; daughters, Amber Pierpont and Andrea McNiel (Ben); grandchildren, Hannah Wilson, Blake Wilson and Marissa Wilson; siblings, Sharon Pierpont, Robert Pierpont (Judi) and Sandy Pierpont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Pierpont and Clarence Pierpont, as well as his brother, Gary Pierpont.

The family will receive visitors at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 28 at Petsworth Baptist Church, 2471 Hickory Fork Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061 with a memorial service to follow at noon. A meal will be served immediately after the service.
