Rappahannock Community College’s Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning has announced its fall course schedule. “Geographic Strategies in the American Civil War” will be held on Sept. 14, 21 and 28 at the Glenns campus from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. each session. The cost is $35. Retired Army Colonel Dr. Paul Severance will discuss how geography shaped key campaigns of the Civil War. Participants will examine the Peninsula Campaign, the Maryland Campaign and Battle of Antietam, and the Pennsylvania Campaign, culminating in the Battle of Gettysburg. Students will analyze how terrain influenced strategy, planning and outcomes. Scott Hancock will teach “Intergovernmental Relations” on Sept. 22 and 29 via Zoom. This course introduces intergovernmental relations, focusing on federalism and the structure of government from federal to local levels.
