$79,000+ awarded in MSPT facade grants

Gloucester’s Main Street Preservation Trust has awarded more than $79,000 in its most recent round of Facade and Interior Improvement Grants. Including this year’s grants to seven Gloucester Court House businesses, MSPT has awarded approximately $934,521 since the program’s inception in 2011.

“We’re so happy to be able to assist our business and property owners by helping fund improvements to their spaces,” said Executive Director Diana West. “The awards were made according to how well the applications met the criteria specified in the application.

“We look for projects that follow our design guidelines while adding value to the community and visual appeal to our Main Street,” she continued.
“I am excited for the facade grant award winners and look forward to seeing all the improvements on our Main Street,” MSPT founder and board chair Adrianne Joseph said.

This year’s awards totaled $79,060.50. Projects must be completed by the end of November. Next year’s grant cycle will open in early January 2024.

This year’s grant recipients are Sweet Tooth Café ($35,000). Kelsick Specialty Market Annex ($15,000), Kelsick Specialty Market Building ($3,990), The Harry Morris Building ($7,584.50), Yolanda’s on Main ($1,701), Gate of Life ($15,000) and Northern Neck Popcorn Bag ($785).

Founded in 2005, the Main Street Preservation Trust owns and operates the Main Street Center and uses its rental income to benefit Gloucester’s Main Street by attracting and retaining businesses in the corridor. It also enhances the economic and business environment by supporting the Gloucester Main Street Association, preserving historic landmarks in the Court House area, and promoting civic and cultural activities.
