79 to graduate from MHS

Seventy-nine Mathews High School seniors are expected to receive their diplomas Saturday morning as the school holds its 80th commencement exercises at 10 o’clock in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium.

This year’s class will be led by co-valedictorians Katherine Casper and Will Hutcheson and co-salutatorians David Blaise Mullins and Noah Christopher Iveson.

Casper and Hutcheson finished their high school careers with identical 4.55 grade point averages. Casper, the daughter of Steve Casper and Jenny Pritchett of Mathews, will attend the University of Virginia in the fall.

Hutcheson, the son of James and Tina Hutcheson of Diggs, will study at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Mullins, the son of David and Jennifer Mullins of Port Haywood, will continue his education at Virginia Tech.  Iveson is the son of Amy Iveson of Gloucester and Jody Gayle, also of Gloucester. He will attend the University of Virginia. Both salutatorians compiled 4.4 GPAs at Mathews High School.
