4 public hearings on Tuesday’s agenda

The Mathews County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will hold four public hearings during a joint meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse. The planning commission itself has requested a change to the Mathews County Zoning Ordinance to remove the restriction countywide on the number of vehicles allowed to be under repair or awaiting repair at an owner-operator auto service business. The number of vehicles allowed could still be restricted on a case-by-case basis. The decision to hold the public hearing came after a meeting last month during which auto repair shop owner Jermaine Ware of Cobbs Creek requested a rezoning of his property from rural to business so that he could operate the shop as a by-right use and expand it. The parcel is zoned rural and is located near the intersection of Roane Point Drive and Buckley Hall Road. Ware is currently operating the business there under a conditional use permit.
