33 to be inducted into MHS Hall of Fame

A total of 33 coaches, athletes and contributors will be inducted into the inaugural class of the Mathews High School Hall of Fame, with a ceremony to be held next month, according to assistant athletic director Al DeWitt.

The Hall of Fame Awards Program will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 10 in the school’s Harry M. Ward Auditorium.

The auditorium’s namesake is one of seven contributors to make the list in this first year of the Hall of Fame program. The list also includes 16 athletes and 10 coaches.

DeWitt said that the idea of a MHS Hall of Fame has been discussed for a long time, back when he served as the school’s athletic director. “It was one of those things we talked about, but never did. It’s been in the works for a long time.”
