20,000+ expected for this weekend’s Guinea Jubilee

More than 20,000 people are expected to attend this weekend’s Guinea Jubilee, scheduled for Friday and Saturday around the Abingdon Ruritan Club grounds, Bena.

Tara Thomas, who co-chairs the Guinea Jubilee committee with her husband Brook, said this year’s festival will include new music and all of the traditional favorites.

The Guinea Jubilee will kick off at 3 p.m. Friday, when the arts and crafts booths open. Entertainment Friday night will be provided by a new band to the festival, The Deloreans. “They are an ’80s cover band with quite a following,” Thomas said. “And we’re very excited about having them this year.”

According to Thomas, the Jubilee is completely full in the amount of vendors it can take, and any vendor that currently expresses an interest in taking part in the festival is being put on a wait list. “It’s nice that we have a reputation as a festival that vendors want to be there,” she said.
