Hudgins Horn Harbor Marina in Port Haywood will hold its annual workboat reunion from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The event will include vendor booths, food trucks, live music, and quite a few handcrafted boat models on display, explained Waynie Hudgins who owns the marina with his wife, Jeannie. “I’ve told a lot of watermen to come,” he said.
Three deckboats in particular will be celebrated during the reunion—the Peggy of New Point, Nellie Crockett, and the East Hampton, as all three turn 100 this year. Other workboats will also dock in the harbor and will be open for people to tour. “What we’re doing is trying to show them off; [there] ain’t many of them left anymore,” he said.
Weather will play a large part in the weekend’s events and will determine if all of the boats planning to show are able to make it. “A lot of them are from up in Maryland and it takes them a day to get here—and that’s if the weather’s good, so we’re hoping that they make it down,” said Hudgins.
