The fourth annual Matt Shackelford Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, May 3 at the Kiln Creek Golf Club in Newport News. The format is Captain’s Choice with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
The price is $125, which includes range balls, golf carts, dinner, swag and prizes (long drive, closest to the pin, winning team, and a chance to win $10,000 with a hole-in-one on hole #4). To help lower scores and raise additional funds, mulligans will also be available for purchase.
Shackleford, an avid golfer and 1990 graduate of Gloucester High School, passed away in 2022 at the age of 50 following a battle with cancer. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the National Brain Tumor Society and support local community needs. A memorial scholarship has been created in his name for graduating seniors at GHS.
Sponsors and prize donations are sought for this event. For more information, call Craig Borgstrom at 757-814-0815 or Tiina Shackelford at 804-815-3693. Event details are also available at the website https://birdease.com/34216, and golfers can register there as well.
In its first three tournament, the event has raised more than $31,700.
