Abingdon Ruritan Club recently presented a $1,000 donation to The Rosenwald Woodville School Foundation. This contribution will support the foundation’s ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the historical significance of Woodville School, which is located on Route 17 at Hayes. In addition, the funds will be used to enhance educational programs, maintain the school’s facilities, and support community outreach initiatives. Built in the early 20th century, Woodville School is part of a network of schools envisioned by philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, of Sears Roebuck fame and lawyer Thomas C. Walker. These schools were established to provide quality education to African American children in the segregated South.
