Machicomoco State Park in Hayes will host its second annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 18. Festivities will be held in the Interpretive Area from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Guests will be able to stroll through the meadows of Machicomoco to experience an exciting day of discovery featuring a wide variety of incredible event partners. The celebration will include hands-on activities that highlight conservation paired with fun experiences where you will learn to uncover fascinating insights into the environmental work happening right here in our region.

“This celebration encourages people to get outside, enjoy natural spaces and remember why environmental protection matters on a personal level,” said Machicomoco State Park Manager Adam Newland. “Earth Day raises global awareness about environmental issues like climate change, pollution, habitat loss, and clean water access. Many people only learn about these topics through Earth Day activities, so we are excited to share our resources with the public and have fun while making a positive impact.”

Guests can bring a lunch, or they can treat themselves to something tasty from one of the food trucks that will be onsite.

All Virginia State Park locations will host a variety of programs and projects that spotlight conservation and sustainable living during the week of April 16-26.

Visitors can join guided nature walks, wildlife viewing, educational workshops, tree plantings and hands-on service projects aimed at protecting the natural beauty and biodiversity found across all 44 state parks.
