William Herbert Akins, age 84, of Gwynn, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013.

One of God’s children, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hampton, Va. After retiring he attended and was a Sunday school teacher at the Church of the Nazarene for 20 years. He was a retired civil servant from both Langley Air Force Base and Fort Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Herbert and Irene Akins, and his beloved little dog “Tinkle.” He is survived by his wife, Ruby Rowe Akins.

Graveside services were held in Gwynn’s Island Cemetery, Grimstead, Va., on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gwynn’s Island Cemetery, P.O. Box 5, Gwynn, Va. 23066.

Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Va., was in charge of the arrangements.
