The annual Mathews County Community Yard Sale, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at various sites around the county, will be joined this year by a new endeavor—a Vintage Market, to be held the same day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along Main Street.
Janice Jones, owner of The Cottage on Main Street, said that a small group of businesses that advertise themselves as Treasures by the Bay came up with the idea for the Vintage Market. The countywide yard sale has been very successful, she said, and her business group thought it would be a good idea to add an antique fair to the event.
“With the sidewalks wider now, we figured we could bring in local and outside dealers, as well as craftsmen that reuse old stuff,” she said. “An antique fair will guarantee more variety for people, and we thought what a fun thing it would be.”
The roads won’t close for the market, and all the shops that are usually open will be open, said Roane.
