Over 100 yogis gathered this past weekend at YMCA/APYC Camp Kekoka in Kilmarnock for the 17th annual Kekoka Yoga Retreat. The three-day retreat raised almost $30,000 for camper scholarships. This year’s theme was “Empower.” Event founder and chair Susan Johnson gathered a team of 27 session leaders from the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, Hampton Roads and Richmond. Their classes allowed participants to sample a variety of yoga and teaching styles, ranging from meditative to energetic. These included vinyasa, yin and Kundalini yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Gyrokinesis, sound bowl healing, and myofascial release. New this year were a presentation on bone health, a life-coaching workshop, Integral Yoga, and ecstatic dance. Taking advantage of the Camp Kekoka venue, outdoor activities such as kayaking and the camp’s zipline were also offered.
