Two experts from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science will discuss "Global Warming in the Chesapeake Bay" in a course sponsored by the Rappahannock Community College Educational Foundation’s Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning (RILL).

The series will be held from 1-3 p.m. on the following Wednesdays—March 6, 13 and 20—at the VIMS campus at Gloucester Point.

David Malmquist and John Boon will explore the causes and potential consequences of global change in the Chesapeake Bay through lectures, open discussion, and lab tours, according to a RCC spokesman.

Malmquist will open the first session with an overview of global warming and the links between water temperature, acidification and animals that live in the bay.

In the second session, Boon will share statistics and predictions for rising sea level in the Chesapeake Bay, and will explain how daily, seasonal and year-to-year changes in tide levels help predict future storm tides.
