VIMS announces upcoming programs

The College of William & Mary’s Batten School & Virginia Institute of Marine Science has announced its upcoming events for the month of January. Take a behind-the-scenes tour at VIMS on Jan. 15 from 10-11:30 a.m. at Watermen’s Hall to learn more about the institution’s local and global research impacts. These 90-minute guided tours are designed for adults and older children (10 and older are welcome, but must be accompanied by a guardian). All tours include a guided interpretation of VIMS’s Visitor Center, including an opportunity to view its gag grouper, catsharks, oyster toadfish and more. Visitors can also view two research laboratories/facilities. Advance registration online is required. Walk-ups will not be permitted to join the tour unless there is space available. A Discovery Lab on shipwrecks will be held on Jan. 20 from 6-8 p.m. Through hands-on activities and displays, guests will learn how shipwrecks provide habitat for many underwater animals, while also serving as ...
