VIMS announces September events

William & Mary’s Batten School and Virginia Institute of Marine Science has announced several upcoming events for the month of September.
Join VIMS for “Building a Resilient Future: Solutions and Innovations from the Maldives” tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 5, in the McHugh Auditorium, located at Watermen’s Hall, on the VIMS campus from 3:30-5 p.m.
Maldives Ambassador Ghafoor Mohamed will deliver a presentation on how the Maldives are approaching conservation, climate change and building a resilient future.
Discovery Lab
The next Discovery Lab, “Seafood Farms,” will be held Sept. 17 from 6-8 p.m. in the Catlett-Burruss Research and Education Lab on the VIMS campus.
The focus of the lab will be aquaculture, which is the farming of seafood, like fish, oysters, clams and scallops. The Chesapeake Bay Oyster Aquaculture is a $15 million industry that links communities, culture and mollusks, according to VIMS. Learn how farming shellfish could become the future of sustainable seafood.
