Virginia Cooperative Extension is offering a free, year-long virtual Diabetes Prevention Program, from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting Nov. 4 (information session Oct. 28)—weekly for the first two months, bi-weekly for the following four months, and then monthly after that.
There is no fee to participate, but your insurance will be billed (with no copay/cost required on your part), a release said. If you are uninsured or your insurance will not cover your participation, VCE does have grant funds that may potentially allow you to still participate.
To qualify, participants must:
—Be 18 years or older.
—Have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher (23 or higher if Asian American).
—Not be previously diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
—Not be pregnant, and
—For those with Medicare, no end-stage renal disease or previous participation in a Diabetes prevention program.
