Timberneck House getting some much-needed TLC

Timberneck House, a two-and-half-story home located on the grounds of Machicomoco State Park in Hayes, has stood since 1793 on a steep slope overlooking Timberneck Creek, with an expansive view of the Catlett Islands, the York River and the York County shoreline beyond. Over the past few years, it’s gotten some TLC to restore the historic home to its former glory. The house was built for the Catlett family, who lived there and farmed the 643 acres around it for successive generations over more than 200 years. A wing was added in the 1850s, followed by a “kitchen room” in the 1930s. Since then, the house has remained essentially the same. In 2007, the property was sold to a developer who had dreams of high-dollar homes on acreage parcels, even discussing the installation of a heliport.
